- Focus tunable lenses
ML series
Focus-tunable liquid lenses that allow users to adjust focal power on demand through mechanical actuation, without requiring electronic control. The sophisticated helical design of the ML Series enables large clear apertures and particularly wide focal-power ranges.
Thanks to zero holding power, the ML Series can be motorized via gears or actuated manually through simple rotation. While the ML-20-37 offers high optical quality and repeatability—ideal for refraction correction in ophthalmic applications—the ML-18-30 is tailored to specialized illumination applications.
Product variants
Seamless refraction from -18 to 18 diopters
The ML-20-37-VIS-36D is a mechanically focus-tunable lens featuring a 20 mm clear aperture and an optical power range from –18 to +18 diopters. Focus is adjusted by rotating the outer ring, smoothly transitioning the lens curvature from concave to convex. Its durable, low-torque mechanism enables long service life and straightforward motorization for precise, repeatable focus control. Available with or without a C-mount adapter, it integrates seamlessly into a wide range of optical setups.
Key advantages:
- Wide optical power range of 36 dpt
- Zero holding power
- Extremely durable (>100,000 rotations)
- Linear, low-torque mechanism for smooth adjustment
- Easy to motorize, with repeatability of ~0.1 dpt
Enabling illumination with variable spot size
The ML-18-30 is a liquid lens core, which can be incorporated into illumination systems to control divergence of the light. The lens curvature is changed from flat to strongly convex by pressing a ring (lens shaper) onto the membrane. This axialtravel is realized by a rotating actuation together with the inclination of the helix structure at the outer face of the lens.
Key advantages:
- Large optical power range of 28 dpt
- Zero holding power
- Compact & lightweight
- No color errors due to low-dispersion lens fluid
