- Focus tunable lenses
EL series
The EL series brings fast and reliable focus control to optical systems worldwide. By precisely controlling focal power with a small electrical current, these lenses eliminate bulky mechanics and enable compact, durable designs.
With response times in the range of 1-25 milliseconds and apertures ranging from 3 to 16 mm, the EL series is trusted in applications from machine vision and microscopy to ophthalmology, laser processing, and 3D imaging.
Product variants
Compact, ultra-fast focus control
The EL-3-10 is designed for seamless OEM integration where space is limited. Using Optotune’s shape-changing lens technology and a “push-pull” architecture, it can switch from concave to convex in under a millisecond. With robust voice-coil actuators, it delivers reliable performance even in harsh environments and across wide temperature ranges.
Key advantages:
- Ultra-fast response time < 1 ms
- Large focal power range of 26 diopters
- Extremely low power consumption (< 15 mW for +/-5 dpt)
- Reliably reaching 1B cycles in harsh environments
Perfect balance of performance and cost
The EL-7-20-TC is ideal for compact systems that do not want to compromise on good repeatability, which is ensured thanks to very low thermal sensitivity, paired with temperature sensing and 100% individual calibration. Tunable from plano-concave to plano-convex, the EL-7-20-TC covers –6 to +8 diopters in a millisecond.
Key advantages:
- Very fast rise & settling times of 1 & 6 ms
- Slim housing that adds only 4 mm in optical axis
- Excellent repeatability of typically 0.02 dpt
- Low power consumption of 50mW for a 5 diopter range
The all-rounder for a wide range of applications
Developed from more than a decade of customer feedback, the EL-12-30-TC sets a new standard for compact, high-performance liquid lenses. Tunable from plano-concave to plano-convex, it achieves a large range of –6 to +10 diopters in few milliseconds. Best in class thermal sensitivity, paired with temperature sensing and 100% individual calibration make this one of the most repeatable liquid lenses on the market.
Key advantages:
- Fast rise & settling times of 3 & 10 ms
- Slim housing that adds only 5.8 mm in optical axis
- Excellent repeatability of typically 0.02 dpt
- Low power consumption of 50mW for a 5 diopter range
Large aperture for high-end applications
With a clear aperture of 16mm, the EL-16-40-TC represents the world’s largest electrically focus tunable lens. Two membrane options offer focal power ranges of -2 to +3 and -10 to +10 diopters at -250 to +250mA. The high-precision static lens shaper design allows for best in class concentricity and pointing stability, as well as diffraction-limited wave front errors in selected lenses. Integrated temperature sensing and 100% calibration provide for excellent repeatability, making the EL-16-40-TC the lens of choice for the most demanding applications.
Key advantages:
- Largest clear aperture (16 mm)
- Fast rise & settling times of 5 & 13 ms
- Excellent focus repeatability <0.02 dpt and pointing stability <1 pixel
- Available with a variety of threaded mounting options
