In-vitro fertilization incubators

The challenge

In-vitro fertilization (IVF) incubators must meet strict regulatory requirements to ensure successful embryo transfer. Time-lapse imaging of embryos requires high image quality and three-dimensional imaging to capture fine details. Traditional motor-driven focus solutions generate movement that can induce vibrations, potentially affecting image quality.

Our solution

The EL-7-20 and EL-12-30 liquid lenses can be embedded in the microscope of an IVF incubator to enable focusing at different planes along the vertical stage of the embryo dish – without any mechanical movement – preventing vibrations from affecting image quality. With a focus speed of less than 10 milliseconds, they enhance time-lapse imaging, allowing a large number of slices to be captured with high resolution. The liquid lenses can be mounted in different locations: inside the objective lens, behind it, or in the tube lens. Their compact size enables flexible integration while saving space.

Why Optotune for IVF incubators

No vibration induced by focus changes
Fast refocus in a few milliseconds
Precise control of large number of vertical slices
Compact size for real-estate saving
Flexible implementation of the liquid lens in the microscope
