Quality control

The challenge

Industrial manufacturing across a wide range of industries is facing increasingly stringent quality standards. Quality inspection is no longer driven solely by compliance requirements but has become a key factor in product reliability, customer satisfaction, and overall market success.

As a result, in-line quality inspection is increasingly used to complement or replace traditional sampling methods, making inspection speed essential for maintaining high production throughput. Automatic optical inspection (AOI) provides an efficient, non-invasive, and easily integrated approach to continuous quality control. However, modern AOI systems must be capable of rapidly and accurately focusing across varying working distances along the production line to ensure consistent inspection performance without slowing down production.

Our solution

Liquid lenses and fast steering mirrors from Optotune enable high-speed, high-precision inspection in applications such as bottle, lens, automotive, jewelry, and battery inspection. These tasks often involve large, curved, reflective, or uneven surfaces that are difficult to inspect quickly with conventional optics. Fast steering mirrors expand the field of view through super-resolution imaging, allowing large areas to be scanned rapidly without sacrificing spatial resolution, reducing inspection time while still detecting fine defects.

By integrating an Optotune liquid lens, the system can refocus within milliseconds as the mirror scans the object. This dynamic refocusing keeps the entire super-resolved field of view sharply in focus, even when inspecting objects with varying heights or curvatures.

Why Optotune for quality control

Scalable inspection suited for demanding, high-volume industrial production environments
Accurate defect detection with milisecond fast focus
Flexible integration within industrial product line thanks to non-invasive inline automatic optional inspection
Compact size for real-estate saving
Flexible implementation of the liquid lens in the microscope
